My fellow BPW members’ it is with much emotion that I write this newsletter as it is my last as leader of our club. I am most honored to have served amongst the very dedicated members who held this position. As I reflect over the past two years which in fact seemed like two days, I am pleased with all we have covered. Following the footsteps of Barbara our past president and all those before her, I am pleased with our accomplishments. We have much work to do yet. The state of our economy and the crisis mode of life for many who struggle to survive makes what we do all the more meaningful. I thank you for your dedication to volunteerism and your caring attitude. The work of any club that gives to others takes a special kind of human being and it is without a doubt that the Middletown Business & Professional Women’s Club is exemplary!
Scholarship Committee:
Helen let me say last month’s meeting was beautiful because of the wonderful young women we honored and the work you did with your team to make it happen. I wish to thank you for your leadership and insight on this most important job of our club. I know those parents who were present will remember our club and its work for time to come. That is one way we spread the word and get others involved. Thanks team scholarship!
Officer to Install:
We will be electing the new BPW slate of officers. Nominations are as follows:
President – Joanne Norbury – 1st Vice President – Eileen Clifford, 2nd Vice President – Gina Scilabro, Treasurer – Barbara Miller, Assistant Treasurer – Magda Ferrante, Corresponding Secretary – Melissa James, Recording Secretary – Connie James. Installation will be in the first meeting in September. These women will be leading the club and I hope you will work with them in every way to enhance what we do even further. Congrats to all of you!
Fashion Show Committee: What can I say about the work performed by Gert and her team – fantastic! All the concerns we had about timing and numbers of attendance this event soared above and beyond our expectations. It took many people putting their collective ideas and talents together to produce the end result we experienced. The fashion show’s profit looks promising and we will continue to forge forward with scholarships. At our general meeting we will have all the totals in for your information.
I wish to thank each and everyone who helped with this endeavor – it was amazing how everyone pulled together to make it happen. From the members who were taking reservations, door prizes, models’ assistants, greeters, and much more. Everyone focused and did what was for the good of the club.
I wish to make special mention to Jan, Gina and all those who worked on the journal. In these hard times it was a success. To Joanne who handled the money end of the fashion show. Thank you Joanne – we do appreciate your work and look what a great team for next year’s events. Beverly thanks for getting all the door prizes together and to all those members who solicited door prizes as well.
I might have missed some names here please forgive me if I have but I thank you all from my heart. Now our sights are set higher for our 2009 Fashion Show! A job well done members!
This month’s dinner meeting will be at the Senior Center in Middletown, NY at 7pm. Everyone must have received Randy’s email about the pizza, salad and dessert evening at a low cost of $15.00. We decided to do this because of the fashion show falling so close. But it is important that we still have our meeting and we have other business to attend to. I hope you have a table set up for the Expo. Please bring your business and share it with us. Also Judy has reserved speakers that will educate us on Autism. I also will have a friend of mine who has written a book on Autism be my guest at the dinner to share his book’s experience with us.
Please bring coins and laundry detergent for Doris’s program – remember we are still giving gift cards for Safe Homes battered women as well.
Sincerely,
Sher
